Herakles Koumoullos (Development Officer The Good Neighbour Scheme for Mill Hill and Burnt Oak) explained to the Broadway news :
"The Good Neighbours Scheme is a local charity that supports older people in Mill Hill and Burnt Oak. II enables volunteers to provide neighbourly support to elderly and disabled people living in Mill Hill and Burnt Oak in the Borough of Barnet. Our services address the issues of fragility, loneliness, the moving away of children from the area and bereavement. Our services include: film afternoons, lunch clubs, lifts, befriending, chiropody and nail cutting service and sign posting."
Often in any place it is easy to overlook those in need. The Good Neighbours Scheme makes sure that should not happen in Mill Hill.

SUPPORTING OLDER PEOPLE IN MILL HILL AND BURNT OAK
The Good Neighbour Scheme for Mill Hill and Burnt Oak enables volunteers to provide neighbourly support to elderly and disabled people living in Mill Hill and Burnt Oak in the Borough of Barnet.
Our services address the issues of fragility, loneliness, the moving away of children from the area and bereavement.
Our next clinic will be held in January 2016 at the Retail Trust's premises in Hammers Lane. The next few clinics will be on:1 April, 22 April, May 27 and June 17. Call the Good Neighbour Scheme office to make an appointment. Please note that from 22 April the cost per session will rise to £20, still well below the commercial rate. Click here for the dates of all the clinics for 2016.
We have listed all our contact numbers, which includes a 24 hour answerphone, on the site (on the Contact Us page) as well as a contact form (on the Contact Form page) if you prefer to send a message to the Good Neighbour Scheme's email.
The outcomes of our services include the growth of considerable social capital , through the good relationships formed among our clients and also between them and volunteers and staff.
Most of our volunteers are retired themselves and volunteering for the Scheme gives them a sense of purpose and well being. Click here for more information if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.
We currently have nearly 200 clients who use our services and at least 50% are over the age of 80. Do call us if you feel we can be of help to you or one of your family or a friend.
Please support this wonderful local charity. One day we will all be older and one day we may need its help. The only way that a community is worth anything is how it supports the weakest and most vulnerable. Thankfully in Mill Hill we have the GOOD NEIGHBOURS SCHEME. Long may it continue and thrive.
